There’s a lot of life in games. I’ve always been fascinated with the fact that you can only really learn how to live by living, while at the same time hearing a lot about wasting my life playing video games. Almost as justifying my gaming habits I started looking for meaning in the games I was playing and realized I was drawing a lot of lessons from them and the many lives and stories I was experiencing. Like a good novel or movie, games can be powerful mediums for storytelling and deriving meaning from them became a habit of mine.

Here I’ll talk about how games can bring forth meaningful lessons through interaction, storytelling, and design, and why some of those stay with us — in memory, identity and everyday life. Of course, not forgetting about the fun we all look for and get from gaming.

I’ll say it again: games have a lot of life in them. I'll take all the lessons I can get from those lives, as this happens to be my first try living.

And I haven't died yet.
